Auckland City

These photos were taken during my visit to Auckland City. I took the train to Britomart, walked around the city, and visited the Sky Tower, Albert Park, and the Auckland Art Gallery. My favorite photo has got to be the one of the pigeons perched on top of the church in neat lines. It just looks so cool—it feels kinda gothic—and I love the little details, like that one pigeon with its wings out or the one standing on the pointy end of the roof.

I also really love the photo of the couple—or maybe friends—sitting and looking toward the buildings that are under construction, or possibly abandoned. Auckland City, to me, is an elegant city, but even the most elegant places have their flaws, and I tried to capture that. You’ll notice that among all the stunning photos I took, there are two that feel a bit different—and this is one of them. I actually didn’t mean to include the two people sitting in the shot. I was originally just trying to capture the landscape, but I noticed them in frame and thought, “That actually looks kind of nice.” And nice it was. There’s probably some kind of meaning to this photo—maybe they’re looking toward the buildings, hopeful for the future. Even though the buildings look kind of rough or abandoned, there’s still that feeling that something new might come out of it—like a towering skyscraper. Or maybe the photo is just showing how things are right now: the buildings are a sign of the present—messy, in disarray. But in the middle of all that, they’re still sitting there, sharing a moment.
